Design ideation is the process of coming up with a broad set of ideas on a topic without judging or evaluating the ideas. The point of this exercise is to come up with as many possible ideas, no matter how crazy they might seem. There could be instances where the idea you thought was crazy ends up being your best solution.
Design ideation can take a significant amount of time to complete. But this encourages you and your team to come up with various solutions that are unique to your topic.
“Design thinking is a human-centered approach to innovation that draws from the designer’s toolkit to integrate the needs of people, the possibilities of technology, and the requirements for business success.”
Tim Brown, Executive Chair of IDEO
“The ideation phase represents a key transitional step from learning about your users and the problem, to coming up with solutions. If carried out properly, an ideation session is where innovation thrives; it should help you stumble upon that groundbreaking solution that your users have been missing!”
